Session Description
The session will describe and demonstrate the use of virtual reality game design in a classroom setting as part of regular day school and integration as an after-school program. There will be a quick explanation of the functionality of the software package using a monitor, then students and teachers will create VR experiences on laptops and interact in their creations using a fully-immersive virtual reality head-mounted displays and controllers. Questions such as: “How do I integrate this program into my school?” and “How can we use VR Quest to address sustainable development locally in my town?” and “Is there a collaborative environment to share the students work in my country and abroad?” will be addressed. A discussion on potential outcomes and design of specialized curriculum will be offered as well.
What will youth learn and be able to do at the end of the session?
After the session participants will have a much more complete understanding on how VR technology can have an incredible impact on student learning by immersing themselves in present and future worlds they create about issues concerning sustainability. Marketable skill sets that translate into employment will be explained and shown how they can be acquired using the VR Quest program. We hope the students and teachers will learn that the experiences they perceive in the context of virtual reality help with individual achievement and accomplishing collaborative goals.
