Lisa Jobson
Lisa manages the 360º Story Lab at Digital Promise Global. Prior to moving to Berkeley, California and joining Digital Promise Global, Lisa worked at iEARN-USA (International Education and Resource Network) in New York City between 1997-2015, serving in numerous roles, including Executive Director and Chief Program Officer. Lisa received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Brown University and M.A. in International and Comparative Education, Policy Studies from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has taught high school in Providence, Rhode Island, USA and Mmabatho, South Africa.

Elyse Gainor
Elyse works at Digital Promise Global where she manages the Learning Studios program, a global network of student-centered, experiential learning spaces. In this role she runs the semester-long design challenges, and curates resources on teaching and learning for the community of educators. Prior to joining Digital Promise Global, Elyse worked at Vital Voices Global Partnership, where she supported the VVLead Fellowship Program, a capacity-building fellowship for women leaders across the globe. Elyse received her Bachelor of Arts in international affairs with a concentration in international development from The George Washington University.

Session Description
Recognizing the experiential storytelling potential of immersive technologies like virtual reality, Digital Promise Global, the United Nations SDG Action Campaign, and Oculus have launched MY World 360°, supporting youth worldwide to create 360° media as a way to share their perspectives and advance positive action toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). MY World 360º aims to drive youth engagement and agency, improve youth understanding about global issues impacting communities around the world, build young people’s technical production skills with new media, and spur public awareness and action. In this workshop, we will facilitate participants through a series of hands-on quick start activities to spur idea development for immersive storytelling and will together create a piece of 360° media using free tools available on any smartphone.
What will educators learn and be able to do at the end of the session?
In this session, participants will:
- Get familiar with a range of tools and resources that support immersive storytelling and SDG activism.
- Experiment with 360 storytelling and journalism, including idea development and media production using free tools on a smartphone.
- Experience 360° media firsthand and get a behind-the-scenes look at the making of 360°media.
- Access a playlist and toolkit of SDG and related 360/VR resources to launch or extend existing youth media programs at their own sites.
Additional Session Information
Through MY World 360° we want to empower young people to be part of the conversation and take action on the SDGs. We want to share the stories of the people behind and at the front of the SDGs, including those whose lives are most affected by the success of this Global Plan and those who are taking action to make this success a reality. We want to engage everyone to be part of this process.
360° media is an ideal format for youth to capture local perspectives on the SDG-related issues. 360° media captures in every direction at once — up, down, and all around. Viewers are placed in the center of the action, and can choose from what angle they want to see and experience what’s happening around them. 360° media offers the opportunity to tell compelling stories, to understand and interact with the protagonists, and to experience their stories in a more immersive and impactful way.
