Yoko Takagi
Yoko Takagi was born in Fushun, Republic of China in 1940. She learned practical English in her late 30s, which drove her to international communication. Her career as Coordinator of Global Education started with the Luma phone, a still image video phone, under Hawaii Department of Education in 1985. She coordinated more than 600 video conferences using ISDN and Satellites between schools in Japan and other countries. Yoko was introduced to the global education network ”iEARN” in Budapest in 1996. Since her interests lie in promoting collaborative learning with children around the world, she invited Japanese children and teachers to join iEARN. Yoko has attended the iEARN Conference and Youth Summit every summer since 1994 and has been honored with many iEARN Awards.

Arlene García-elías
La profesora Arlene García Elías es maestra bibliotecaria en el Departamento de Educación de Puerto Rico. Lleva 24 años laborando en el Departamento, 16 de éstos como maestra bibliotecaria. Es graduada de la Universidad de Puerto Rico, Bachillerato en Biología y una certificación de maestra de ciencia. Posee una maestría en Bibliotecología de la Universidad de Puerto Rico y en la actualidad estudia un certificado posgrado e de Administración de Biblioteca.
- Trabajó como bibliotecaria Profesional en la Universidad Central de Bayamón. Además, desarrolló la política de digitalización de la Colección Manuel Zeno Gandía en la misma institución.
- Participó en el primer y segundo encuentro internacional de la organización de IEARN latina llevados a cabo en Argentina, presentando proyectos integrados al currículo, desarrollados en la biblioteca escolar.
- Publicó una Guía para el desarrollo de competencias de información que se utiliza como recurso por el Programa de Servicios Bibliotecarios del Departamento de Educación de Puerto Rico.
- Entre los intereses en el área de Bibliotecología se encuentran el desarrollo de Competencias de Información, la animación a la lectura, el Desarrollo de Proyectos Integrados al currículo y la investigación en el campo de la bibliotecología.

Sandra Cristina Lopez de Godoy ha trabajado por varios años con los proyectos de iEARN y KOSKO que le ha permitido crecer como profesional de la Educación y entender que todos colaboramos y aprendemos de forma continua. Cada vez que iniciamos la participación en un proyecto siento una emoción y alegría porque los estudiantes se entusiasmas y vivenciar esa experiencia de aprendizaje global es increíble, siento que siempre vale la pena el trabajo colaborativo.

This session relates to the Machinto : Hiroshima for Peace iEARN Project!
Session Description
This session will include a project introduction and overview, a presentation about students from different countries collaborating on forums and video conferencing, student work from Taiwan and Catalonia, a Q&A session, and an activity for those present on origami cranes for peace or a poetry book about peace. Peace lanterns from Taiwan, as well as posters and books will be on display.
What will educators learn and be able to do at the end of the session?
Through bringing together the iEARN community to share Hiroshima/Nagasaki, students will continue “Never Happen Again” through the next generation through their project work for 12 years. The Goal of this session is simply to link the next 12 years of Machinto in global education.
