Alema Nasim


Alema Nasim works as Manager of Professional Development at Society for International Education (SIE). She has a B.E. in Computer Engineering from N.E.D. University of Engineering and Technology, Karachi, Pakistan. She hold certificates in using ICT in Classrooms from Phillips Academy, Andover USA and is also a Certified Master Trainer from NGO Resource Centre, Karachi, Pakistan.

She worked as a Project Coordinator for Badal Do – a Teach for Peace Project. She manages SIE Professional Development Program and organizes and conducts training workshop for teachers. She works closely with teachers and students with an aim to introduce ICT as a strong educational tool to improve teaching and learning strategies.  She manages iEARN Online Collaborative Projects that runs in 140 countries across the globe.

Besides that she manages various other projects at SIE including STEM based Program for students, Journalism and media projects, and works with students for their skill enhancement by integration of technology and digital tools.

She also has experience of online course content development and facilitates online professional development courses. She represented Pakistan at various iEARN International Conferences and Summits at Uzbekistan, Morocco, Canada, Taiwan and USA.

Co fundadora de la red De Orilla a Orilla (From Shore to Shore) en el 1985. Orillas es una red con interés especial en promover el aprendizaje multilingüe, multicultural y la investigación crítica-colaborativa en Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico y otros países de América Latina; la cual es centro de iEARN desde 1995. Profesora de la Facultad de Educación (UPR-Río Piedras), ofreciendo los cursos de la enseñanza del lenguaje en el nivel elemental y la integración de las tecnologías al currículo a futuros maestros y el curso de Teleproyectos en el nivel graduado. Co facilitadora de proyectos en iEARN Latina. Le apasiona trabajar con futuros maestros y maestros de la sala de clases las estrategias de aprendizaje basado en proyectos y las redes globales de aprendizaje.

Ruty Hotzen


Ruty Hotzen has 36 years of experience teaching science for all levels. She has facilitated iEARN projects for 15 years, including Talking Kites Around the World and Tulips and Daffodils. Ruty has been the country coordinator for iEARN-Israel for the last 12 years. 

Jennifer Russell

Jennifer Russell


As Director of Education, Jennifer provides expertise, leadership, and coordination in the development and promotion of iEARN-USA's virtual exchange program strategies, tools, and network. In this role, she designs projects, resources, trainings, and online courses for teachers and youth to increase their technology and cross-cultural collaboration skills. Prior to joining iEARN-USA, Jennifer was a Peace Corps volunteer in Albania and China where she was a teacher trainer and taught English as a foreign language at the primary and secondary level.

Session Description

This session is for current and/or future iEARN Project Facilitators with at least one year of significant iEARN project experience. During the workshop and discussion, we will explore and share how to design and manage an effective iEARN global project. We will review strategies for project design and planning; recruitment and outreach; facilitation; and technology tools to support a global project.

What will educators learn and be able to do at the end of the session?

  • Create/enhance your project goals, activities, and outcomes
  • Learn new strategies for facilitating projects on the Collaboration Centre
  • Share tips, ideas, and resources for starting and maintaining communication and project work

Additional Session Information

During the session, we will explore sample projects, resource materials, and tools to guide you in different stages of the global project facilitation process. We will also share strategies that project facilitators can use to build and maintain a community among their project participants.
